Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction
Modern medicine makes it possible to treat Erectile Dysfunction using various methods. Generally, any treatment, directed at the normalization and improvement of all functions of the male organism, can be viewed as a way to restore normal sexual activity. Therefore, a combination of therapeutic measures is often applied, such as methods of physiotherapy, hyperbaric oxygenation, laser and magnetic therapy.
Unfortunately, as is often with organic forms of ED, doctors cannot cure a man completely from the underlying disease that led to his problems with erection. In such cases, there is only a symptomatic treatment to restore the ability of men to a normal erection for a certain period of time.
In this connection, a number of treatments have been developed.

1. Penis Pumps
The first technique is local negative pressure therapy which puts the penis into a special tank that tightly clutches the body of the reservoir, and then a pump is used to create a negative pressure. Under the influence of this pressure, the expansion of arteries is produced in the penis and an erection is achieved. Before removing the reservoir from the penis, a special bundle is stretched around it which blocks the venous outflow of blood from the corpora cavernosa. As a result, the achieved erection is enough to last through at least one sexual intercourse. Distinctive features of this technique are its low cost, absolute security and indolence. Its flaw is in producing a relatively low quality of erection which could be considered a nuisance.

2. Intracavernous Injections
The very first artificial means to achieve an erection was the intracavernous administration of drugs. This method has been used since 1975 and its effectiveness lies in the fact that an injection in the proximity of the penis is a vasodilator of the corpus cavernosum. As a result, continuous and high-quality erections can be achieved.
Administration of the drug is strictly done by the individual and should be used no more than once a week. However, this method also has its drawbacks. Firstly, there is the inconvenience in its use as not every man has enough willpower to commit to self-injection of his penis. In addition, there is a relatively large number of complications.

3. Urethral Suppositories
Another method consists of introducing intraurethral suppositories. The man introduces a dose of the drug into the urethra with a special device which provides a quality erection for at least one hour. This should be done in twenty minutes before sexual intercourse. The disadvantage of this method is the inconvenience to use and the high price tag. The urologists always say that this method ‘made the sexual act truly golden’.
4. ED Drugs
The widely used drugs for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction are VIAGRA, LEVITRA and CIALIS, which belong to PDE5 inhibitors class. These medications are prescription only drugs since they might be associated with dangerous side effects. PDE5 inhibitors are taken on ‘as needed’ basis.
PDE5 inhibitors should be used with caution in those patients who take additional drugs such as nitroglycerin (as it might cause a sharp drop in blood pressure also known as hypotension) for heart disease and other chronic diseases.
Please note that after sexual intercourse the erection should disappear. If an erection does not subside within a few hours, you should consult a doctor. Such a condition can damage the genitals and cause erectile dysfunction in the future.
5. Lifestyle Changes
Regardless of the cause of ED, a preliminary medical consultation and examination should be done to start treating sexual problems. A solution to the problem may be as easy as restoring the normal blood sugar or blood pressure level, or drawing attention to the diet.
By changing your lifestyle and following simple guidelines, it is quite possible that your erectile function can be restored without drastic measures. Some lifestyle changes can consist of the cessation of smoking, alcohol, or drugs and getting proper rest (minimum is 2 weeks, the time the body needs to relax).
Of great importance is a healthy diet and daily exercise. We often hear about the importance of diet when the question is about a woman’s waist, or about a beautiful woman’s skin, but proper nutrition is the basis for the good health of both women and men. Men, especially, should limit the amount of fatty foods as fat has negative effects on the blood vessels. Try to avoid grilled steaks and fast food, but rather choose dishes of steamed meat and vegetables.
6. Discuss the Problem
Finally, don’t be silent, but discuss your relationship problems with your doctor as well with you partner.
